Sherry Ryan’s Homegoing

Sherry Ryan passed from this earthly tent on April 28.

She was a professor of Information Systems for 15 years at UNT. She went on full-time disability in 2013 as the complications from a very aggressive form of MS intensified. She was preceded in death by her husband Doug, who died of cancer.

She said during a radio interview “I had grown up in a Christian home and always felt that I didn’t have much of a testimony. But looking back I see that my testimony has become the sustaining power of Christ through difficult times.”

You can listen to the complete interview with Sherry HERE.

Summertime at NT

Decades ago, summertime on campus meant a few students, even fewer departmental meetings and a slower pace.
Now summer seems to fly by. If you DO have a busy summer planned, we hope some of it includes time to rest, and time to reflect on God’s goodness:

“Dear friend, guard Clear Thinking and Common Sense with your life;
don’t for a minute lose sight of them.
They’ll keep your soul alive and well,
they’ll keep you fit and attractive.
You’ll travel safely,
you’ll neither tire nor trip.
You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry,
you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep.
No need to panic over alarms or surprises,
or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner,
Because God will be right there with you;
he’ll keep you safe and sound.”
Proverbs 3:21-26 Message Bible

Highlights: March 23 Luncheon – Dr. Adegbola T. Adesogan

Adegbola Adesogan
University of Florida
Professor, Ruminant Nutrition

“I have been struck by the fact that those who spend many years working at a university, and then pass away, are quickly forgotten,” Bola said. “People move on and are busy with life. It has reminded me of the transitory nature of life… as C.T.Studd once remarked:
Only one life, twill soon be past;
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

“So I think about:
#1 What are the talents God has given me? How will I use them?
#2 Whose glory do I seek? Gal 2:20 says I have been crucified with Christ. I seek His glory more than my own now.

“The most important decision I ever made was to surrender my life to God and to receive His son Jesus Christ as my Savior,” Dr.Adesogan writes. You can read about his life on his webpage.

Faith, Not Convenience — Feb 21 Luncheon

THANK YOU Fr. Dankasa for speaking with faculty and staff at UNT’s main campus, Discovery Park and UNT-Frisco.

Father Jacob Dankasa received his PhD in Information Sciences from UNT and now serves as priest at Holy Family of Nazareth Church in Irving.

He writes in his book Faith, Not Convenience “Today, we live in a world where Jesus’ teachings are despised by some and cherished by many. Even among those who follow the teaching of Christ many still struggle to understand it, to make meaning out of it, and to live by it in their everyday lives.”

Martin Luther King

“Whose writings influenced Martin Luther King, Jr., most? My answer was Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John!

“The basis of Martin Luther King’s ministry and mission was the ethics and morality of the Crucified Carpenter from Galilee.”
— Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, Chief of Staff to MLK, in A Knock At Midnight page 4

Spring 2023 — Small Groups For Your World

It’s easy to feel alone as a Christian within academia — sometimes you are misunderstood because of your faith. And at church, people don’t seem to get the world of the university.

Our small group materials address this unique world of the college campus.

If you are interested in being in small group Bible study, please let us know. We know life is busy – our groups meet for 45 minutes, every other week.
